Thomas Andrew Player, JD, MBA
Attorney, Founder
After serving as a trial attorney in two prominent litigation firms, Thomas Andrew Player established Player Entertainment Law in 2000. In addition to the transactional aspects of entertainment law, Tom has considerable experience in civil litigation and appellate law. He has litigated thousands of cases and handled approximately a hundred appeals in the Florida courts.
Tom is active in the Entertainment, Arts, & Sports Law Section of the Florida Bar, where he is currently a member of the executive council, and chairman of the music committee. He is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (the Grammy Awards), The Florida Bar, the Seminole County Bar Association, the Seminole Inn of Court, the Florida Justice Association, and the Central Florida Trial Lawyers Association.
Tom has lectured at continuing legal education seminars for the Florida Justice Association, The Florida Bar Entertainment, Arts & Sports Law Section, the Nova Southeastern University Sports and Entertainment Law Symposium, and, since 2001, has been a panelist, sponsor, and host for the annual Florida Music Festival’s music industry conferences. He also regularly guest-lectures at Barry Law School, the University of Central Florida, and Full Sail University.
Tom has the honor of having been chosen by his peers as one of Florida Trend magazine’s Florida Legal Elite for 2009 and 2011 through 2014. He was also recognized by his peers as the top entertainment attorney in Central Florida for the Orlando Business Journal’s Annual “Best of the Bar” in 2006 & 2007 (the last two years the award was given).
Tom holds his law degree and an MBA, both earned in 1997, from the University of Florida, and a Bachelors of Business Administration with a major in finance from the University of South Florida, where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity. During graduate school, Tom was a member of the Entertainment, Arts & Sports Law Society, the Phi Delta Phi Legal Honors Fraternity, and the John Marshall Bar Association. Tom earned a coveted “book award” in law school for obtaining the top grade in his negotiation class. He was also the Chief Defense Counsel for the University of Florida Student Honor Court, and clerked for a prominent Gainesville law firm throughout graduate school.
Tom plays bass guitar and did so professionally for many years. He attributes his experiences as a professional musician to giving him considerable insight into the music business and an appreciation of the industry from the musician’s perspective.
Tom is also an American Taekwondo Association certified instructor, a third degree black belt, three-time Florida State Champion (2012, 2103, 2015), and 2013 and 2015 top-ten World Championship competitor. Tom teaches and trains at Victory Martial Arts.
Player Entertainment Law has a proven track record of protecting and furthering the interests of their clients. You will not find greater loyalty, discretion, or tenacity on your behalf anywhere.
